Database Administrator

Job Summary:

This position is responsible for maintaining the SQL database and StoneEdge Order Management system. In addition, the Database Administrator will create queries for all departments as requested.


Essential Functions:


• Daily maintenance of the SQL database including auditing for data consistency and amending bad data.
• Writes SQL queries and provides data in excel format to other departments as requested
• Creates and alters SQL stored procedures, triggers, and other database scripts as needed
• Creates and alters database tables, views and other database objects as needed
• Finds and handles Microsoft SQL Server errors and record blocking
• Creates and alters Microsoft Access reports as requested
• Provides user support for all Microsoft Access applications including the StoneEdge Order Management system
• Validates and uploads all new product spreadsheets from Merchandising
• Validates and uploads existing product and supplier information updates into the database
• Writes new SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE, and DELETE queries as needed to alter data, keep data consistency, and handle bad data
• Assists in checking and updating product information to ensure that data on the website matches data in the SQL database

Secondary Functions:

• Assists in responding to Help Desk tickets
• Assists in setting up new users
• Rotates through “on-call” status as the department schedule dictates
• Acts as back-up to the EDI coordinator

Job Specifications:


Education: Minimum – Associate’s Degree in IT, CIS, or related field; Training and/or certification relevant to database administration. Preferred – Bachelor’s Degree in IT, CIS or related field

Minimum Experience: 1-2 years of progressive responsibility in database administration

Knowledge: A thorough understanding of Microsoft SQL Server Management System is essential. Working knowledge of Transact-SQL and Microsoft Access are required. Preferred – Experience with StoneEdge Order Management System and the Microsoft Access Visual Basic for Applications language

Analytical/Interpersonal Skills: Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to interact with users and office staff in non-technical terms and assist them with difficult tasks. Must be a self-starter who has the ability to both work without supervision on both short and long term projects, as well as work as a member of a team. Ability to follow precise directions, display attention to detail, multitask and high levels of organization are required. Ability to exhibit extreme caution with sensitive data.
