Purchasing Agent
Job Responsibility/Summary:
This position will be responsible for negotiating product pricing, inventory analysis and the development and implementation of cost-saving strategies.
Essential Functions:
- Acts as the primary contact for vendors for negotiations, resolution of PPV, order placement and expediting issues
- Aggressively negotiates product pricing with new and existing vendors
- Utilizes analyzed data to provide cost savings solutions and/or strategies
- Takes every opportunity to reduce the COGS
- Establishes Optimum Order standards through experience and quantifiable research
- Actively pursues contact with new vendors to ensure product is available from multiple sources at all times
- Assists the Customer Service Department with product tracking and backorder information
- Continuously conducts analysis on: inventory turns, inventory accuracy, min/max levels, GMROI, inventory value, cost analysis, demand forecasting, product life cycle and open liabilities
- Thinks "outside-the-box" to develop cost saving strategies, improve procedures and obtain optimum pricing from suppliers
Job Specifications:
Education:
Minimum - Bachelor's Degree in Business or a related field; Preferred - Advanced Degree
Minimum Experience:
2-5 years in a progressively responsible procurement role;
Knowledge:
A thorough knowledge of business cycles. Strong computer skills including the use of Microsoft Excel. Strong understanding of inventory analysis such as min/max levels, ABC analysis, reorder points, optimum order quantities, inventory turns, forecasting and vendor performance metrics. Preferred - Experience with StoneEdge, lean manufacturing, Six Sigma and EDI.
Analytical/Interpersonal Skills:
Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must be a self-starter who has the ability to work without supervision on both short and long term projects. Attention to detail, the ability to multitask and high levels of organization are required. The ability to negotiate, make requests of vendors and provide continuous follow-up both internally and externally are essential. A strong analytic mind is essential for forecasting and analysis.
